The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has decided to equip its new Orka-class submarines with the F21 MK2 heavyweight torpedo, developed by Naval Group.
This replaces the earlier plan to transfer MK48 torpedoes from the existing Walrus-class submarines. The change reflects the need for higher precision and enhanced capability against evolving threats, including manned and unmanned systems with anti-torpedo defenses.
The first Orka-class submarine equipped with the F21 MK2 is expected to be delivered starting in 2033.
