Otokar, the global player of the Turkish defense industry, has signed the largest armored vehicle export contract that Türkiye has received in a single item.

The agreement for the tender of the Romanian Ministry of Defense for armored vehicles, amounting to approximately 857 million Euros, was signed in Romania on November 27, 2024.

Otokar, the defense industry company of Koç Group, won the 1059 units of the 4×4 tactical wheeled light armored vehicle project of Romtehnica, which belongs to the Romanian Ministry of Defense. The agreement amounting to approximately 4.3 billion RON (about 857 million euros) excluding VAT was signed in Romania on November 27, 2024.

In the contract, which covers a total of 1059 COBRA II 4×4 armored vehicles and some integrated logistics support services, the first 278 of the vehicles will be produced locally in Türkiye and the rest in Romania. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2025 and be completed in batches within 5 years.

Otokar had submitted a bid for the tender for the purchase of 4×4 Light Armored Tactical Vehicles opened by C. N. Romtehnica S.A. (Romtehnica), a subsidiary of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, on March 20, 2024. Following the completion of the technical evaluation, field tests and commercial evaluation processes, Otokar was invited by the contracting authority for contract negotiations on October 4.

Otokar's COBRA II 4×4 tactical wheeled armored vehicle, which has been a military vehicle supplier to NATO and the United Nations since the 1980s, is actively used by more than 20 users in 13 countries today.

With Otokar's nearly 40 years of experience and capabilities in the defense industry, COBRA II can be developed for different missions as it is designed as a modular platform. COBRA II, which was added to the Otokar product family in 2013, has been designed and produced in more than 30 different versions in line with the wishes and needs of its users. The COBRA II, which was put out to tender, was also specially developed according to the technical and tactical characteristics requested by Romania.

The COBRA II 4×4 tactical wheeled armored vehicle stands out for its high level of protection and transport, as well as its large internal volume. COBRA II offers a high level of security thanks to its superior protection against ballistic, mine and IED threats. COBRA II, which has a wide range of weapon integration and mission equipment options, provides high performance in the most difficult terrain and climatic conditions.
