Navantia Australia, the Australian arm of Spanish shipbuilder Navantia, has opened a new office in Canberra, strengthening its presence in Australia’s political and defense center.
“Australia is a strategic partner for Navantia and a vital contributor to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific,” the company said Tuesday in a press release.
The Canberra office will serve as a base for closer engagement with Australia’s government, Defence, research bodies and industry, while supporting the integration of Australian engineering, technology and industrial capabilities into Navantia’s international programs.
“Our Canberra office demonstrates our long-term commitment to investing in Australian capability, technology and talent,” the company added.
“By uniting Australia’s world-class engineering and innovation with Navantia’s global naval expertise, we will deliver greater value for the Australian Defence Force and strengthen sovereign industrial capability,” said Gonzalo Mateo-Guerrero, Navantia’s director of operations and business.
He added that the partnership would “create new opportunities for Australian solutions in international markets.”

Australian Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy formally inaugurated the office at a ceremony attended by senior Australian and Spanish officials from government, defense, diplomacy and industry.
With more than four centuries of maritime heritage, Navantia operates globally across naval shipbuilding, systems and technology.
In Australia, the company supports major Royal Australian Navy platforms and is expanding its work in naval design, sustainment, digital engineering, advanced analytics and maritime autonomy.
