Klein Marine Systems has selected Exail’s Octans Nano OEM Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) as the standard navigation solution for its 5900 Side Scan Sonar (SSS). The integration is intended to enhance image stability and positioning accuracy for high-resolution seabed mapping used in defense, security, and commercial applications.
The Exail Octans Nano OEM AHRS provides a heading accuracy of 0.5° secant latitude and pitch/roll accuracy of 0.1°. Its compact size and low power requirements allow for integration into subsea platforms, enabling reliable attitude data collection during extended underwater missions.
According to Klein Marine Systems, the adoption of Exail’s AHRS improves sonar performance by reducing data errors and minimizing post-processing needs. “By integrating the Octans Nano OEM into our 5900 SSS, we are significantly enhancing both positioning accuracy and image stability,” said Ted Curley, General Manager at Klein Marine Systems.

The 5900 SSS is designed for high-resolution seabed mapping, including geophysical surveys, wreck detection, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) identification. The addition of Exail’s navigation technology strengthens the system’s stability in demanding underwater environments.
Shayan Haque, Regional Sales Manager at Exail, stated that Klein’s selection reflects confidence in Exail’s motion compensation technology. “We are proud to support Klein’s mission to deliver more precise and efficient underwater surveys.”
The collaboration reinforces Exail’s position in the global subsea navigation market, establishing a new benchmark for performance in seabed mapping and underwater exploration.
