Spain welcomes third Airbus A330 MRTT

Airbus announced Tuesday the delivery of the third A330 MRTT to Spain’s Ministry of Defense.

The aircraft will be operated by the 45th Wing of the Spanish Air and Space Force from Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base in Madrid, the company said.

With this delivery, Airbus has completed an initial order set in 2021.

A330 MRTTs for Spain are equipped with a state-of-the-art hose-and-drogue refueling system and feature more than 18 hours of endurance and a range of 16,000 kilometers, according to the company’s statement.

The global A330MRTT fleet has accumulated over 375,000 flight hours. Its large basic fuel load capacity of 111 tonnes allows it, among other functions, to perform air-to-air refueling missions without the need to add extra fuel tanks, the company said.

To date, there is an order book of 91 A330 MRTTs, of which Airbus has delivered 68 aircraft to more than 18 countries.
