According to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), new fire-control instruments supplied by Safran Electronics & Defense are being handed over to the Swedish Armed Forces. The programme covers 260 instruments, with an initial handover of 205 equipment cases and further deliveries planned through 2028.

FMV announced on October 23 that the new systems are designed to improve the Swedish Armed Forces’ ability to observe, identify and locate targets, as well as coordinate indirect fire.
The main component is an electro-optical binocular system equipped with an infrared camera, laser rangefinder, compass and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) module.
According to FMV, the system also includes digital mapping software, image fusion and other support functions. Data collected by the equipment can be transmitted to firing units and other military systems through command-and-control and communications interfaces.
For fire-control teams requiring greater precision, FMV is also providing a north-seeking gyroscope on which the instrument can be mounted. The agency said the equipment uses the Earth’s rotation to determine bearings with high accuracy.
FMV added that the new instrument is approximately 10 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, making it easier for personnel to carry and operate.

Further deliveries planned through 2028
The programme covers 260 fire-control instruments, along with testing and repair equipment and spare parts intended to support maintenance by the Swedish Armed Forces.
According to FMV, the first stage involves handing over 205 cases containing instruments and associated spare parts, with further deliveries continuing through 2028.
The agency signed a contract worth approximately SEK 488 million with Safran Electronics & Defense in September 2025. The system, commercially known as MOTI SHARPCROW, is intended for fire-control teams in the Swedish Army, Navy and Home Guard.
FMV said the new equipment will support the planning, execution and assessment of indirect-fire missions.
