American defense-tech giant L3Harris Technologies announced Friday it has received a three-year contract, valued at up to $60 million, to advance a long-range, maneuverable interceptor for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center Xtended Range Counter-sUAS Missile program.
Designed to counter small- to medium-sized unmanned aircraft systems as well as traditional Short Range Air Defense threats, L3Harris advanced to the project’s second phase for flight performance testing with a fully integrated interceptor that delivers greater range, speed, and operational flexibility than current systems.
“This design combines innovative propulsion with advanced seeker technologies to provide a highly capable, modular, and cost-effective solution deployable from existing launch platforms,” said Scott Alexander, President, Propulsion Systems, Missile Solutions, L3Harris.
Earlier this month, L3Harris opened a new facility for solid rocket motor production.
