Spanish shipbuilder Navantia announced Sunday it has launched the seventh corvette for Saudi Arabia in the city of San Fernando.
The new vessel, named Neom, is the second ship of the series contracted in 2025, following the five corvettes delivered between 2019 and 2024.
According to the company’s statement, the launch ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Ghuraybi, Commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, and Ricardo Domínguez, Chairman of Navantia. The event was also attended by HRH Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz Al Muqrin, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Spain, and Alberto Cervantes, Navantia’s Director of Corvettes and Offshore Patrol Vessels Business.
Neom is based on the design of another Navantia corvette, the Avante 2200. The new vessel is developed for maritime surveillance, strategic asset protection, anti-submarine, anti-air, and anti-surface warfare missions, while incorporating advanced combat, communications, and platform management systems.
