Türkiye’s domestically developed long-range cruise missile, SOM, successfully struck its target in a test firing using a locally produced turbojet engine, marking a key milestone in defense independence.

Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir announced the achievement on social media, highlighting the missile’s precision strike capability.

Kacir emphasized that the SOM missile, a source of national pride, reflects Türkiye’s progress in reducing foreign dependency in defense technology. He credited the success to years of hard work by engineers, technicians, and scientists.

Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) Head Haluk Gorgun called the test a decisive step toward an independent Türkiye, praising the collaboration between TUBİTAK SAGE, Kale Jet Engines, ROKETSAN, and other stakeholders.
