Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Agency (FMV) to supply a new launch system for the Gripen C/D and Gripen E fighter aircraft. The contract is valued at approximately SEK 1 billion and covers series production. The launcher was initially included as an option under a previous agreement focused on development and integration.
According to Saab, the launch system is designed to carry air-to-air missiles and countermeasure pods. It is mounted on the aircraft’s weapon pylons and provides the interface between the aircraft and the weapons it deploys.
“The launch system is an important part in order for us to continue ensuring the availability of Gripen and supporting the Swedish Air Force’s capabilities,” said Lars Tossman, head of Saab’s Aeronautics business area.
The order supports continued operational use of both Gripen variants within the Swedish Air Force and maintains industrial work within Saab’s aeronautics division. Deliveries will be made under the timelines set by FMV, though no schedule has been disclosed.
