Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX, has been awarded a $536 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue supporting the SPY-6 family of radars. The contract includes integration, testing, and software upgrades for the radar systems, and covers installation of the SPY-6(V)4 variant on Flight IIA Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.
The agreement builds on a previously awarded Integration and Production Support contract and was issued as a sole-source procurement. Under its terms, Raytheon will provide training, engineering support, shipboard installation, and integration services, along with software enhancements aimed at expanding the system’s capabilities.
The SPY-6 radar is designed to detect and track air, surface, and ballistic missile threats. It has been installed on two U.S. Navy ships to date, with three additional ships scheduled for installation and testing during 2025. Over the next ten years, the radar system is expected to be fielded on more than 60 naval vessels.
The work under this contract is expected to conclude by May 2026.
The SPY-6 family of radars is part of the U.S. Navy’s broader modernization plans, aiming to equip current and future surface combatants with more advanced sensing capabilities across multiple mission areas.
