Philippine Navy to deploy Turkish defense giant ASELSAN-made CIWS

Turkish defense giant ASELSAN's domestically-developed systems are poised to make their debut in the Philippine Navy.

The BRP Miguel Malvar Corvette, constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and equipped with ASELSAN's GÖKDENİZ Close Air Weapon System (CIWS), was recently launched in South Korea.

After Türkiye’s first Atak helicopter export to the Philippines, ASELSAN was gearing up to supply the GÖKDENİZ CIWS to meet the expanding needs of the Philippine Navy.

This move underscores the strengthening collaboration between Turkish defense industry firms and the Philippines.

The GÖKDENİZ CIWS is a standout defense system designed to intercept anti-ship missiles targeting the deployed vessel. Featuring the advanced 35 mm Airburst Ammunition (ATOM) developed by ASELSAN, it boasts a substantial effective range. This system allows for simultaneous loading of airburst and conventional demolition ammunition, offering flexibility to engage different target types.

In addition to the ATOM programmable smart ammunition, ASELSAN GÖKDENİZ supports HEI and TP ammunition types.

GÖKDENİZ, a dual-barreled 35 mm CIWS equipped with ballistic calculation capabilities, distinguishes itself in global military arsenals with its integrated fire control radar and electro-optical suite.
