HII and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), two major global shipbuilders, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore collaboration opportunities in accelerating ship production for defense and commercial programs. The agreement was signed at Sea-Air-Space 2025, the largest maritime expo in North America.

The MOU focuses on expanding U.S. shipbuilding capacity and aims to increase production efficiency, share best practices, and advance technological innovation. The companies intend to strengthen the broader maritime industrial base of both the United States and South Korea.

Brian Blanchette, Executive Vice President and President of Ingalls Shipbuilding at HII, said the agreement reflects a commitment to national security through expanded shipbuilding capacity. Won-ho Joo, CEO of HHI’s naval and special ship business unit, described the partnership as a milestone that will deliver enhanced value to customers.

The collaboration is expected to leverage the experience and resources of both shipbuilders to address growing global maritime defense needs.
