HENSOLDT and Young Poong Electronics (YPE) have signed a licence and manufacturing agreement that will enable local production of two flight data recorder models in South Korea. The partnership covers the LCR 100, a lightweight data recorder, and the FCR 230, which combines voice and data recording capabilities.

The agreement is part of HENSOLDT’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, with South Korea identified as a key market due to its growing defence budget and emphasis on domestic industrial participation.

Under the terms of the agreement, HENSOLDT will provide YPE with full manufacturing documentation, proprietary software, and the technical expertise needed to produce, test, and repair the devices in Changwon. YPE will manage final assembly, quality control, marketing, and sales. Crash Protected Memory modules and certain core components will continue to be supplied by HENSOLDT.

A licence fee will apply for each unit sold, and a definition phase will follow to detail how technology transfer and equipment qualification will be implemented.

In addition to domestic production, YPE plans to establish a regional support network to deliver maintenance services across Asia-Pacific. The aim is to reduce lead times and improve accessibility for potential customers in neighbouring countries.

The LCR 100, weighing approximately one kilogram, integrates multiple recording functions into a compact unit and is certified to EASA ETSO-2C197 standards. It is compatible with a range of aircraft platforms and is designed for efficient integration, offering combined cockpit voice, flight data, and optional video recording capabilities.

The FCR 230, also covered by the agreement, offers combined voice and flight data recording in a single unit and is intended for broader regional deployment.

This collaboration is expected to increase local capacity in South Korea and position the country as a hub for recorder production and support within the region.
