The two vessels, originally built as the fifth and sixth units for the Italian Navy under the names “Marcantonio Colonna” and “Ruggiero di Lauria,” have now been renamed KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 and KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321. This move comes as part of a strategic partnership between Fincantieri and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, aimed at enhancing Indonesia’s naval capabilities and ensuring regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
The renaming ceremony was attended by key military officials, including Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy, and Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy. Their presence underscored the strong defense ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to maintaining stability in the region.
The contract follows the success of Fincantieri's MPCS/PPA vessels “Francesco Morosini” and “Raimondo Montecuccoli” during their deployments in Indonesia in 2023 and 2024, which generated considerable interest from the Indonesian Navy.
The two ships are set to be delivered to the Indonesian Navy in 2025, further cementing Fincantieri’s role as a key partner in global naval defense.
