KNDS Deutschland, KNDS France, Rheinmetall Landsysteme, and Thales established the MGCS Project Company GmbH (MPC) in Cologne, following approval from the German Federal Cartel Office. Stefan Gramolla, Dipl. Ing. Dipl. Wirt. Ing. and Colonel (G.S. German Armed Forces Reserve), has been appointed as managing director.
The MPC will serve as the industrial prime contractor for the next phase of the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) program, a Franco-German initiative aiming to replace the Leopard 2 and Leclerc main battle tanks with a multi-platform ground combat system by 2040. The company will consolidate the system’s concept and main technological pillars.
The project is managed by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) on behalf of both nations through a Franco-German Combined Project Team (CPT).
