Kalashnikov has introduced the Krona short-range air defense system for territorial air defense to its customer, presenting full-scale functional mock-ups of the combat module, dual-band radar complex, and automated command post. The system is designed to counter aerial threats at close range and protect key sites.
Before this introduction, Kalashnikov showcased Krona-E, the export version, at the IDEX 2025 defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi in February. Krona-E is designed to protect important state facilities, urban infrastructure, and high-priority sites from airborne threats. The system’s primary targets are medium-class unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Krona functions as an integrated system that combines surveillance, command and control, and combat units that can be either mobile or stationary. It is equipped with 9M340 and 9M333 surface-to-air missiles, allowing it to engage a variety of aerial threats.
According to Kalashnikov CEO Alan Lushnikov, experience gained in recent military operations played a key role in the system’s development. He stated that the need for a maneuverable and highly automated system capable of countering low-visibility drones and cruise missiles became evident from operational experience.
The modular structure of Krona allows for flexible deployment, making it adaptable to different operational environments.
