The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 2,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS) II All-Up-Round. The estimated total cost of the package is $100 million.
The proposed sale includes spare parts, support equipment, missile software, training, and both U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics support. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of the possible transaction.
According to DSCA, the sale supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening a key regional partner. The APKWS will enable Saudi Arabia to engage targets with precision, minimizing collateral damage. The equipment will be integrated into the Saudi armed forces without altering the military balance in the region.
BAE Systems, Inc. of Falls Church, Virginia, is the principal contractor. No offset agreements have been defined at this time. Up to two U.S. Government and two contractor representatives may be assigned to Saudi Arabia annually for technical support.
