Dassault Aviation CEO Éric Trappier has unveiled the first F4-standard Rafale fighter jet produced for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a significant milestone in the bilateral defense cooperation between France and the UAE. The event, held in the presence of French Minister of Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu and UAE Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohamed Bin Moubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei, highlights the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.

The F4 Rafale for the UAE is a product of the shared efforts and expertise of Emirati and French engineers, reflecting the strong partnership that has developed over decades. The unveiling comes as part of the UAE’s 2021 acquisition agreement for 80 Rafale aircraft, valued at 14 billion euros ($14.6 billion), marking the largest contract ever signed by the French military aeronautics industry.

This deal is a testament to the lasting relationship between the UAE Armed Forces and Dassault Aviation, which spans more than 50 years. The Rafale will complement the UAE’s existing Mirage 2000 fleet and future acquisitions of U.S.-made F-35 fighter jets, enhancing the country’s defense capabilities.

The F4 version of the Rafale features advanced avionics, radar systems, and extended range. Notably, the jet incorporates improved stealth capabilities, which enhance its survivability in contested environments. The Rafale’s multi-role capabilities allow it to conduct air-to-air, air-to-ground, reconnaissance, and even nuclear deterrence missions, depending on operational requirements.

Dassault Aviation is also working on the F4.1 variant, which will introduce additional upgrades such as helmet-mounted sights, enhanced fire control systems, and passive threat detection systems. The first deliveries of the UAE’s Rafale aircraft are expected to begin in 2027.
