Egypt has requested to buy AN/TPS-78 long range radar turnkey systems, KIV-78 cryptographic devices, Global Positioning System (GPS) devices with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules (SAASM), spare and repair parts, software and software support, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services and other related elements of logistics and program support.
The estimated total cost is $304 million.
It is stated in the announcement that this proposed sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic growth in the Middle East.
The proposed sale will improve Egypt’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to detect various air threats.
Egypt already operates a mixture of other radar systems and will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces.
The principal contractor will be Northrop Grumman Corporation.
