The Turkish Company Akım Metal, a key member of the A Group, has made a significant achievement by locally developing the Helicopter Visual Landing Assistance System (HVLAS). This system is essential for enabling safe helicopter takeoffs and landings on ships, especially in challenging weather conditions and low visibility.

The system consists of critical components such as the Stabilized Glide Slope Indicator (SGSI), which helps pilots approach landing platforms at a safe angle using colored lighting, and the Horizon Reference System (HRS), which displays angular differences between the platform and the horizon for pilots. The development of these systems began in 2019 as part of projects supported by TÜBİTAK and was successfully completed between 2022 and 2023.

In October 2022, Akım Metal signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command to upgrade the HVLAS systems on the Gabya, Yavuz, and Barbaros class ships. This partnership enhances the efficiency of naval operations and strengthens Turkiye's defense industry independence.
