Tekever has opened its largest UK site in Swindon, Wiltshire, where the company plans to manufacture drones used for surveillance and intelligence missions.
The Portugal- and UK-based firm said the new facility will allow it to produce one of its largest drone models in Britain for the first time, while also scaling up production of another platform. The site is located in a Grade II listed building and becomes Tekever’s third base in the UK.
The move adds to a growing cluster of drone companies in Swindon. Firms such as Stark and Munin Dynamics already operate in the town, and last week DSEI Flyby also announced its intention to establish a presence there.
Councillor Jim Robbins, leader of Swindon Borough Council, welcomed Tekever’s decision, calling it “a huge endorsement” for the area. He added, “We look forward to showcasing Swindon’s strategic strengths and innovation potential so we build a strong reputation as a national leader in defence manufacturing.”
The company said it intends to invest in training and developing young local talent to build its workforce in Wiltshire.
Will Stone, Member of Parliament for Swindon North, said he was “incredibly proud” that Tekever had chosen the town for its new site. “I want to see a drone cluster of excellence established here, creating highly skilled, well-paid jobs while also fostering new education and training opportunities for young people,” he said.
