The United Engine Corporation (UEC), part of the Rostec State Corporation, showcased its latest aviation engine advancements at the Airshow China 2024 exhibition. The company unveiled cutting-edge technologies designed for tactical aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and regional aircraft, solidifying its position as a leader in the global aerospace industry.
World Premiere of the Fifth-Generation 177S Engine
At the exhibition, UEC premiered its 177S engine, a fifth-generation powerplant that enhances the flight range and operational efficiency of tactical aircraft. The engine boasts reduced fuel consumption across all operating modes, cutting operating costs while increasing power availability for onboard electronic systems.
Revolutionary New Engines on Display
UEC also debuted full-size models of the AL-31FN Series 5 and SM-100 engines. The SM-100, built in the compact AI-225-25 size, delivers up to 3300 kgf of thrust, a 30% improvement over previous versions, while featuring reduced weight and extended service life. This engine is also adaptable for high-altitude UAVs.
The AL-31FN Series 5, tailored for single-engine tactical aircraft, offers a thrust increase to 14,000 kgf in takeoff mode and a 6% reduction in fuel consumption, enhancing aircraft flight range and altitude capabilities.
Showcasing Innovation for Helicopters and Regional Aircraft
The VK-1600V engine for medium helicopters and the TV7-117ST-01 turboprop for regional aircraft also featured prominently at UEC's exhibit. Both engines emphasize fuel efficiency, increased reliability, and adaptability to customer requirements.
A hybrid-electric powerplant based on the VK-650V engine was another highlight, representing a step toward sustainable aviation technology.
Breakthrough in Materials and Design
UEC demonstrated a polymer composite fan blade for the PD-35 engine, reducing weight by 30% compared to titanium alternatives. This marks the first international display of such advanced material technology.
UEC CEO Alexander Grachev emphasized the adaptability of these engines, noting their ability to upgrade previous-generation models with enhanced thrust and service life during overhauls.By introducing these innovative solutions, UEC aims to meet the diverse needs of global aerospace customers while maintaining a competitive edge in the aviation market.
