Red Cat delivers first Black Widow shipment to US Army

U.S. based Red Cat Holdings announced that its subsidiary Teal Drones has delivered the first shipment of Black Widow systems, valued at approximately $3.5 million, to the U.S. Army under the Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) program.

The company shared the update through its official LinkedIn account, noting that the delivery marks a significant milestone for the Black Widow platform within the Army’s modernization efforts. The SRR program seeks to provide small, rugged, and easily deployable drones capable of supporting units at the tactical edge.

The Black Widow drone, developed by Teal Drones in Utah, offers a 35-minute flight endurance, a range of up to 8 kilometers, and is equipped with a Teledyne FLIR payload for day and night operations. Its modular design allows rapid field maintenance, while its communications system has been tested to resist electronic warfare in contested environments.

Founded in 2016, Red Cat operates through Teal Drones and Flightwave Aerospace, designing modular unmanned systems for defense and security applications. The company also partners with industry actors to integrate capabilities such as AI-powered target recognition, 3D mapping, and multi-domain interoperability.

Red Cat continues to expand its presence in the tactical drone sector, positioning the Black Widow and other platforms as part of the U.S. Army’s evolving unmanned ecosystem.

Earlier, in an interview with defensehere.com, Red Cat Vice President of Marketing Stan Nowak highlighted the company’s focus on modular platforms, mission-specific technologies, and partnerships enabling multi-domain operations.
