In a statement, the Pentagon noted that the contract includes Foreign Military Sales to several countries, including Japan, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom and Ukraine.
The contract highlights the rising global demand for the combat-proven AMRAAM missile, which has been a key weapon for U.S. and allied forces for more than 30 years. It follows a separate $1.2 billion production contract awarded to Raytheon less than a year ago.
AMRAAM is currently integrated across 14 platforms and deployed by 44 countries, with a strong record of effectiveness in both air-to-air and surface-to-air missions. Its proven capability in active conflict zones reinforces its strategic importance to the U.S. and allied defence forces.
“As global conflicts intensify and air threats become more sophisticated, AMRAAM continues to give allied forces a decisive edge in combat,” said Sam Deneke, president of Air & Space Defense Systems at Raytheon. “This award underscores the critical role that the fifth-generation AMRAAM plays in maintaining air superiority and will ensure service members have the advanced technology needed to stay ahead of adversary threats.”
