The first A-29N Super Tucano aircraft for the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) have arrived in Portugal. Three aircraft landed at OGMA’s facilities in Alverca do Ribatejo, near Lisbon, where they will be fitted with additional systems to meet NATO and Portuguese operational standards.
The aircraft are part of a contract signed eight months ago between Portugal and Embraer for the acquisition of 12 A-29N units. Portugal is the launch customer for this NATO-standard variant.
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, commented on the milestone:
“The acquisition of the A-29N Super Tucano reinforces FAP's confidence in Embraer products. We are sure that these aircraft have contributed even more to the modernization of the Portuguese fleet and to broader cooperation with the local industry.”
The A-29 Super Tucano has accumulated over 600,000 flight hours and is currently in service with 22 air forces worldwide. The aircraft is designed for multiple missions, including pilot training, close air support, reconnaissance, and border surveillance. It is also equipped with modern avionics, communications, and weapons systems, and is capable of operating from austere runways with limited infrastructure.
