General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has announced the sale of three MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems to Poland. This acquisition, confirmed by the Polish Ministry of Defence, will significantly enhance the country’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. Along with the aircraft, Poland will also receive two Certifiable Ground Control Stations (CGCS) and three years of SkyGuardian Global Support Solutions.
The MQ-9B SkyGuardian is the latest model in GA-ASI’s RPA lineup, known for its long endurance, extended range, and advanced capabilities such as satellite-only control for auto takeoff and landing. The platform is equipped with a Detect and Avoid system, enabling operations in unsegregated airspace, a feature that underscores its technological edge.
“This purchase will provide Poland with persistent multi-domain situational awareness, a critical asset for national security,” said David R. Alexander, President of GA-ASI. “We are proud to strengthen our partnership with Poland and support their defense initiatives.”
Poland’s decision to acquire the MQ-9B follows its successful operation of MQ-9A Reapers under a lease agreement with GA-ASI, which began in 2022. This operational experience laid the foundation for the current purchase.
Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who witnessed the signing of the contract, emphasized the importance of the deal, stating that it would bolster the ISR capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces.
The MQ-9B is already in use by multiple nations, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, India, and the United States, and has been integrated into a variety of military operations. Its proven performance in U.S. Navy exercises and special operations further cements its status as a cutting-edge ISR platform.
