Peru receives U.S. approval for $3.4 billion F-16 sale

The U.S. Department of State has approved Peru’s request for a foreign military sales package valued at $3.42 billion, covering F-16 fighter aircraft, weapons, equipment, and support services.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, and RTX are the designated prime contractors for the proposed deal. According to the agency, the sale would support Peru’s efforts to modernize its air force, strengthen border defense, secure national airspace, and conduct air-to-ground operations in counterterrorism and counternarcotics missions.

The package includes 10 F-16C Block 70 fighters, two F-16D Block 70 fighters, and 14 F110-GE-129 engines. It also covers AIM-120C-8 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles, AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles, LAU-129 missile launchers, M61A1 aircraft guns, and associated targeting and guidance kits.

Peru has also requested electronic warfare and sensor systems such as AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield or equivalent, infrared search and track systems, AN/AAQ-28 Litening pods, Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems II, and AN/ALE-47 countermeasure dispensers.

Additional elements of the proposed sale include repair and return services, software, pilot and maintenance training, simulators, technical documentation, mapping data, and engineering and logistics support.

DSCA has formally notified Congress of the proposed transaction.
