The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Lockheed Martin multiple contracts exceeding $4.2 billion, with the largest involving the production of the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS).

A $4,234,948,956 modification to an existing GMLRS contract increases its total value to $13.26 billion. Work will be carried out at Lockheed’s Grand Prairie, Texas facility and is scheduled for completion by October 20, 2027. The award follows an internet solicitation that received one bid.

GMLRS is a precision-guided surface-to-surface rocket system capable of engaging targets at ranges up to 70 kilometers, with extended-range variants reaching 150 kilometers. The system is launched from both M270A2 MLRS and M142 HIMARS platforms and is designed for rapid deployment and repositioning. Variants include the high-explosive Unitary, the Alternative Warhead designed for area effects, and the Extended Range version now entering production.

The DoD also awarded Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems in Syracuse, New York, an $8,044,741 modification for engineering support of submarine electronic warfare systems for both new and in-service vessels. This work is set to conclude by February 2026.

In a separate agreement, Lockheed Martin secured an $18,302,843 modification to a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) contract. This raises the total THAAD contract value to $10.43 billion and covers interceptor component obsolescence support. Work will take place in Sunnyvale, California, and Troy, Alabama, with completion expected by August 18, 2028. Funding for the THAAD program includes fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025 procurement allocations.

The $4.2 billion GMLRS production award reflects ongoing U.S. Army modernization priorities and the system’s role in joint allied operations. Its use by Ukrainian forces has underscored its value in disrupting logistics, striking fortified positions, and supporting deep-strike missions. Lockheed Martin’s Grand Prairie and Camden, Arkansas facilities are expanding capacity to meet both domestic and international demand through Foreign Military Sales programs.
