Embraer has delivered four A-29 Super Tucano light attack and training aircraft to the Paraguayan Air Force (FAP), as part of a six-aircraft order aimed at modernizing the country’s air capabilities. The handover ceremony was held on June 30, 2025, at Silvio Pettirossi Air Force Base near Asunción, and attended by senior officials including President Santiago Peña, Vice President Pedro Alliana, and Minister of National Defense Óscar González.
According to Air Force Commander General Júlio Fullaondo, the A-29s represent Paraguay’s most significant defense acquisition in 38 years. He emphasized that the aircraft will enhance the country’s ability to monitor its airspace and respond to emerging security challenges, describing the purchase as a strategic investment in national sovereignty and long-term stability.
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, highlighted the platform’s adaptability across a wide range of missions including light attack, close air support, reconnaissance, and advanced pilot training. He noted that the A-29 has been selected by 22 air forces worldwide, with over 290 aircraft ordered to date.
Designed for operation in austere conditions, the A-29 is equipped with advanced avionics, precision weapons systems, and a modern human-machine interface (HMI). The aircraft is capable of operating from unpaved runways with minimal infrastructure, and is known for its high reliability, low maintenance requirements, and reduced life cycle costs. Earlier this year, the platform passed the milestone of 600,000 flight hours.
