Northrop Grumman Corporation will develop relay ground stations for the U.S. Space Force’s Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) system.
The relay ground stations are intended to support the U.S. Space Force’s strategy for satellite ground system modernization. They will provide communications and data relay capabilities in support of the Next-Gen OPIR geosynchronous orbit space vehicles.
The system will use Northrop Grumman’s software-defined, transportable ground system architecture. It incorporates antenna, radio frequency, and cyber technologies. According to the company, this combination is designed to provide the Space Force with flexibility and adaptability for current and future mission needs.
Northrop Grumman previously developed and delivered the first relay ground station under an earlier contract award.
