The agreements cover deliveries of APEX combat rounds as well as ballistically matched target practice ammunition with Reduced Ricochet Risk (RRR) features. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with deliveries expected over the following two to three years.

Anders Nyhus, Director of Medium Caliber Ammunition at Nammo, said: “These latest orders underscore Nammo’s commitment as a trusted supplier of cutting edge capabilities when it counts, and the demonstrated effectiveness against today´s and tomorrow´s threats, sets it truly apart.”

The APEX PGU-47/U round, designed for the GAU-22/A cannon on the F-35, combines armor-piercing, explosive, and tracer functions in a single munition. It is intended to provide accuracy and effectiveness against both air and ground targets. The PGU-51/B and PGU-52/B practice variants are designed for cost-efficient training with added safety characteristics.

The new orders build on a previous contract signed with Australia, and follow years of development in cooperation with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA) and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) to achieve flight clearance for the F-35A.
