Milrem Robotics, in cooperation with Ukrainian defence technology company Frontline, has integrated the BURIA remote weapon station (RWS), armed with a 40mm automatic grenade launcher, onto the THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle (UGV).
The integration was tested during live-fire trials in Ukraine under operational conditions. According to the companies, the system engaged targets at distances of up to 1,100 meters while allowing operators to remain under cover.
Paul Clayton, Director of Industrial Partnerships at Milrem Robotics, said the demonstration confirmed the integration’s reliability and accuracy. The trial also assessed the platform’s stability and target-tracking performance when remotely operated.
Frontline CEO Yevhen Tretiak said the project reflects the growing role of unmanned systems in both defensive and offensive operations. The BURIA RWS entered service in January 2025 and is now in serial production, with dedicated training programs for frontline units.
Further trials are planned in the coming weeks to evaluate the system’s performance across different operational scenarios. The THeMIS, first deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the ongoing war with Russia, is currently used in various support roles on the battlefield.
