Bangladesh and Malaysia signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and exchanged three notes covering defense, energy, trade, and education during a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

The agreements were concluded during talks between Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus, who is on a three-day official visit to Malaysia.

According to the Bangladeshi leader’s office, the MoUs include cooperation in defense, liquefied natural gas supply and infrastructure, petroleum products, infrastructure projects, and the halal ecosystem. This marks the first formal defense cooperation agreement between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur.

A separate agreement was signed between Malaysia's National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry to enhance bilateral trade relations.

Prime Minister Anwar acknowledged Bangladesh’s support on humanitarian matters, including its position on Rohingya refugees, and said the partnership between the two nations is grounded in mutual respect and trust.
