GKN Aerospace and Boeing renew C-17 fan blade repair deal

GKN Aerospace has entered into a three-year agreement with Boeing to provide fan blade repair services for the C-17 Globemaster, specifically for the PW F117-100 and PW2000 dual-use engines. This contract is a step forward in GKN Aerospace’s ongoing efforts to expand its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities for military and commercial aero-engine components.

The repairs will be carried out at GKN Aerospace’s newly opened 150,000-square-foot facility in San Diego, which is equipped with advanced automation and robotics. The site, which can handle up to 80,000 fan blade repairs annually, aims to enhance product reliability, boost operational efficiency, and reduce turnaround times for critical military platforms. The facility serves over 400 customers and is designed to meet high-performance standards across various industries.

GKN Aerospace has over 15 years of experience in PW2000 fan blade repairs, making it well-positioned to offer reliable and efficient repair solutions. The contract also underscores the company's long-standing collaboration with Boeing and its ability to support the C-17 Globemaster fleet.

Gerald Coste, Senior Vice President for the Engines MRO Business, highlighted that this contract strengthens the partnership with Boeing and showcases GKN Aerospace’s extensive expertise in fan blade repair. He also noted that the highly skilled team in San Diego plays a critical role in supporting the C-17 fleet.

This new contract is part of GKN Aerospace’s broader strategy to provide cutting-edge, cost-effective services to both military and civil aviation sectors. The company remains focused on developing advanced aerospace technologies, including sustainable solutions for emission-free flight.
