Rheinmetall has secured a new contract from the Bundeswehr to supply more than 1,000 logistic vehicles, valued at approximately €770 million gross. The order includes 963 vehicles equipped with swap-body systems—some with armored driver cabins—along with related flatbeds and tarpaulin superstructures. An additional 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in 4x4 and 8x8 configurations have also been requested.

The deliveries are scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. The orders have been booked under the third quarter of the fiscal year.

The UTVs fall under a larger framework agreement signed in July 2024, which represents the largest logistics vehicle order in Rheinmetall's history. That agreement outlines the potential delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles, with a total gross value of €3.5 billion. Under the seven-year contract, the Bundeswehr can request additional units of the UTV 5t and 15t variants, which are already in service. The 4x4 UTV 3.5t, newly introduced in the framework, is also available under this arrangement and shares a high degree of commonality with existing models.

The Bundeswehr has operated UTVs since 2017, when it awarded RMMV (Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH) a contract to deliver vehicles in the 5-ton and 15-ton cargo load classes. Since then, approximately 7,000 HX-based vehicles—along with swap-body components and 70-ton semi-trailer units—have been delivered under similar flexible procurement frameworks.

Both the UTV and swap-body systems are based on Rheinmetall’s HX series, which is specifically developed for military environments. The platform is designed to ensure mobility in demanding terrain.

The HX vehicle family is currently in use with several NATO and allied countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark, and Ukraine. With more than 20,000 HX-series vehicles deployed globally, Rheinmetall notes that the latest order reflects continued demand across international defense customers.
