Germany has deployed five Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Poland as part of NATO’s air surveillance operations on the alliance’s eastern flank, amid escalating tensions with Russia, defense officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The aircraft will operate from the Minsk Mazowiecki Air Base, located east of Warsaw, and support Polish forces in monitoring regional airspace. According to the German Defense Ministry, the deployment began this week and will continue for roughly one month.
The mission includes nearly 150 German military personnel stationed at the base. A spokesperson for the German Air Force told Bild that the operation aims to reinforce NATO’s collective air defense posture and contribute to regional deterrence efforts. The German Air Force has been cooperating with Poland in airspace monitoring since April. Prior to the current deployment, fighter jets involved in similar missions were based in the northern German city of Rostock.
Poland, which borders Ukraine and Belarus, has become a key transit point for military assistance flowing from NATO countries to Ukraine.
