Spain acquires Skydio X10D drones in €18 million deal

The Spanish Ministry of Defence (MINISDEF) has awarded a contract worth up to €18 million to U.S. drone manufacturer Skydio for the supply of Skydio X10D drones to the Spanish Armed Forces. The deal, executed in collaboration with the Spanish defense and security distributor Paukner Group, aims to bolster Spain’s defense capabilities with advanced autonomous drone technology.

The Skydio X10D drones are designed for modern battlefield operations, featuring AI-powered autonomy, high-performance sensors, and advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. These drones are optimized for human-machine teaming, allowing for enhanced coordination in complex operational environments.

Adam Bry, CEO and co-founder of Skydio, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that the contract underscores the increasing role of autonomous drones in contemporary military operations. The Skydio X10D, equipped with onboard AI and autonomous flight capabilities, is expected to provide the Spanish Armed Forces with enhanced operational effectiveness.

Over the past five years, Skydio drones have been integrated into every branch of the U.S. Department of Defense and adopted by 25 allied nations. Spain’s acquisition of the X10D models places it among a growing list of countries leveraging AI-powered drones to strengthen national security and improve mission success in contested environments.

The contract reflects Spain’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge defense technologies, ensuring greater resilience and operational efficiency on the battlefield.
