Serbia has bolstered its air defense capabilities by deploying the FK-3 missile system, a state-of-the-art platform developed in China. This deployment aims to enhance the nation’s ability to protect its airspace and critical infrastructure, marking a significant step in Serbia’s defense modernization efforts.
The FK-3 system, part of the Serbian Ministry of Defense’s arsenal, includes an integrated suite of command vehicles, rocket launchers, radars, and logistics vehicles. These components work together to provide a robust and comprehensive air defense solution.
Advanced Features and Capabilities
Captain 1st Class Stefan Manić, who leads the FK-3 missile battery, emphasized the system’s advanced technological features. “The FK-3 incorporates anti-jamming measures and is specifically designed to counter missiles targeting radar systems,” Manić stated. He also highlighted its high mobility and operational efficiency, calling it a critical addition to Serbia’s defense strategy.
Derived from China’s HQ-22 long-range air defense system, the FK-3 can engage up to six aerial threats simultaneously with a total of 12 missiles. It is capable of intercepting a wide range of targets, including aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones. The system operates at an impressive speed of up to 1,000 metres per second, with a maximum range of 100 kilometres and an altitude ceiling of 27 kilometres. These specifications make it highly suitable for protecting vital installations and military units.
Comprehensive Training for Serbian Armed Forces
To ensure effective operation, Serbian Armed Forces personnel underwent extensive training in China. Captain Manić praised the dedication of the team, noting, “All personnel successfully completed rigorous training, equipping them with the skills needed to independently manage and maintain the FK-3 system.”
Deployment and Readiness
The FK-3 has been integrated into the Serbian Armed Forces’ 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade. Regular training exercises and performance assessments are conducted to ensure operational readiness. These activities are focused on defending Serbia’s national territory and key assets from potential airborne threats.
