Lockheed Martin delivers 900th THAAD Interceptor

Lockheed Martin has officially delivered its 900th Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), marking a significant milestone in the company’s defense technologies. The THAAD Weapon System, renowned for its effectiveness and combat-proven capability, is designed to protect against short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats. THAAD is unique as the only U.S. missile defense system capable of intercepting targets both inside and outside the atmosphere.

“This milestone comes at a time when global events have highlighted THAAD’s strategic importance in deterring and countering evolving threats,” said Dan Nimblett, Vice President of Upper Tier Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Lockheed Martin. “THAAD is crucial to protecting our nation and allies against a range of ballistic missile threats, and Lockheed Martin will continue to work with our industry and government partners to deliver its proven capability.”

THAAD has built an impeccable reputation, having maintained a 100% flight test intercept success rate. The weapon system has also successfully integrated with the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor, further demonstrating its versatility and capacity to complement other defense systems. This integration is crucial for creating a layered and networked defense architecture that can adapt to the complex and evolving global threat landscape.

As a combat-proven missile defense system, THAAD has earned significant demand worldwide, with its track record bolstering its role in national and global security strategies. The system’s capacity to provide comprehensive protection against ballistic missile threats from all ranges continues to drive its success in defense contracts and operational use.

In March 2022, the THAAD Weapon System achieved a significant operational milestone by successfully demonstrating its integration with the PAC-3 MSE, enabling the expansion of the battle space and enhancing overall mission flexibility. This integration ensures that the THAAD system remains at the forefront of defense technologies, providing unmatched security for the U.S. and its allies.

Lockheed Martin’s ongoing improvements to the THAAD Weapon System include continued enhancements to ensure its effectiveness against both current and emerging missile threats. The development of these advanced capabilities underlines the company’s commitment to securing the future through cutting-edge defense technologies.
