India signs agreement with Russian company for supply of tank engines

The Indian Ministry of Defense has signed a $248 million agreement with the Russian state defense industry export company Rosoboronexport for the supply of engines to Russian-made T-72 tanks.

In the statement made by the Indian Ministry of Defense, it was noted that Rosoboronexport will transfer technology to the defense industry company “Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited”, which is operated by the Indian government, within the scope of the agreement.

In the statement, it was reported that the T-72 tanks equipped with 780 hp engines are the “mainstay” in the tank fleet of the Indian army, and with this $ 248 million deal, Rosoboronexport will supply these tanks with 1000 hp engines.

Thus, it is planned to increase the mobility and offensive capacity of the Indian army on the battlefield.

Aleksandr Mikheyev, the general director of Rosoboronexport, stated on February 7 that the volume of exports of defense industry products to India reached 80 billion dollars.
