Fincantieri delivers first MPCS vessel to Indonesian Navy

Fincantieri has delivered the first of two Multipurpose Combat Ships (MPCS) to the Indonesian Navy during a ceremony held at its Muggiano shipyard. The vessel, named KRI Brawijaya-320, is the first of two PPA-class units being constructed for Indonesia under a strategic cooperation agreement with the country’s Ministry of Defense.

According to Fincantieri, KRI Brawijaya-320 was completed in a short timeframe, owing to new shipbuilding synergies implemented at its facilities. Its sister ship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, is currently under construction.

The delivery ceremony was attended by several high-level officials, including Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman of Fincantieri; Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of the Indonesian Navy; H.E. Prof. Dr. Junimart Girsang, Indonesian Ambassador to Italy; Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy; and Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani, Italy’s National Armaments Director.

Fincantieri stated that the MPCS vessels are designed for a variety of missions, including combat operations, maritime patrol, rescue tasks, and civil protection. Once both ships enter service, they will be the largest combatants in the Indonesian Navy fleet.
