BAE Systems to deliver FORGE C2 system for Space Force satellites

BAE Systems has been chosen by the U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command to deliver a new satellite command-and-control (C2) system for the Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) program.

The FORGE C2 system will provide the Space Force with unified C2 capabilities for multiple Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) missile warning satellites. Additionally, the existing Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) constellation will transition onto the FORGE C2 framework.

Under the contract, BAE Systems will consolidate telemetry, tracking and command, flight dynamics, mission management, and ground resource management functions into a single software framework. This integration will enable satellite operators to use the same core applications across missile warning systems, simplifying operations, lowering maintenance costs, minimizing training, and ensuring scalability for future space-based early warning systems.

Don Speranzini, vice president and general manager of Ground Systems & Services for BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems, stated:

“FORGE C2 represents an innovative new approach to advancing command and control capabilities for the Space Force. Our team has worked as a mission partner with the Space Force to develop a system that effectively monitors threats and helps strengthen the defense of the U.S. and our allied nations. We’re proud to contribute to this critical mission.”

The FORGE C2 program builds on BAE Systems’ long-standing experience in designing advanced ground systems for defense and intelligence sectors.
The company also contributed infrared sensor payloads for the Next-Gen OPIR satellites, leveraging its mission expertise to support FORGE C2 development.
