BAE Systems and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. (WZM), a leading Polish defense company, have signed a license agreement aimed at improving the operational readiness of the Polish Land Forces’ M88 Armored Recovery Vehicle (ARV) fleet.
The agreement outlines the use of BAE Systems’ intellectual property by WZM to carry out maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities on the M88A2 fleet. This collaboration ensures that the vehicles remain fully operational, supporting battlefield recovery and repair operations.
WZM, a member of the PGZ Capital Group, has extensive expertise in maintaining tracked armored vehicles, and this partnership emphasizes Poland’s critical role in supporting its military’s newly acquired equipment. The agreement is expected to bolster the local defense industry while enhancing the Polish military’s operational capabilities.
As part of the agreement, BAE Systems will assist in ensuring the M88A2’s continued operational status, which is vital for the Polish Land Forces’ recovery capabilities. The M88A2 is equipped with upgraded armor protection and enhanced horsepower, allowing it to recover vehicles up to 70 tons in weight, including the M1 Abrams tank. It is designed for rapid deployment and recovery in battlefield environments.
Dean Medland, vice president of Sustainment & International Programs at BAE Systems, highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating that it is an important step in strengthening the regional support network, alongside the U.S. manufacturing base.
This collaboration marks a key development in Poland’s efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities and support local industries while fostering greater cooperation with allied nations.
