Embraer has initiated talks with Lithuanian industry to establish long-term cooperation in the fields of aerospace and defense, following Lithuania’s decision to procure the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft.
A delegation of Embraer specialists recently visited several Lithuanian companies and facilities, exploring potential collaboration in areas such as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), engineering, innovation, and supply chain development.
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, confirmed ongoing discussions with multiple local firms. “We will contribute to Lithuania’s defense capabilities with the C-390 Millennium aircraft and also support the country’s industrial and technological development,” he stated during the visit.
The initiative aligns with the strategic objectives of Lithuania’s Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, which aim to strengthen national defense infrastructure and foster cooperation with academic and research institutions.
This move is part of Embraer’s broader strategy to deepen its footprint in Europe. Since the early 2000s, the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer has expanded its presence through partnerships with European defense firms, the creation of local facilities, and supply chain agreements. Currently, over 40% of the C-390’s components are sourced from European suppliers.
In recent years, Embraer has launched industrial cooperation programs with several European nations, including Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Sweden. The establishment of Embraer Defense Europe in Lisbon further underscores the company’s intent to engage more closely with EU and NATO member states. Plans for regional C-390 training centers and enhanced defense cooperation are also underway.
The C-390 Millennium is a multi-mission aircraft designed to operate in challenging environments, capable of performing tasks such as troop and cargo transport, airdrop, medical evacuation, firefighting, search and rescue, and aerial refueling. Since its entry into service in 2019, the aircraft has maintained a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates exceeding 99%.
Lithuania joins a growing list of European countries, including Portugal, Hungary, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Sweden that have selected the C-390 for their air forces. The aircraft’s adoption is expected to enhance Lithuania’s operational readiness, with full lifecycle support available within Europe.
