Airbus and Navantia to integrate SIRTAP UAV into Spanish Navy’s flagship

Airbus Defence and Navantia have signed an agreement to explore the integration of the SIRTAP unmanned aerial system (UAS) into the Spanish Navy’s flagship, Juan Carlos I. The collaboration aims to enhance the vessel’s operational capabilities by ensuring interoperability between SIRTAP and the ship’s existing systems, including the SCOMBA combat management system. According to Airbus Defence, the integration efforts will focus on three key areas: Command and control (C2): Establishing seamless communication between SIRTAP and the ship’s systems. Combat system integration: Ensuring the UAV operates effectively within the naval combat framework. Navigation support: Facilitating take-off and landing operations from the carrier.

The initiative seeks to achieve full integration between SIRTAP and Juan Carlos I, enhancing mission capabilities, operational flexibility, and the overall effectiveness of both platforms in diverse operational scenarios.

Airbus and Navantia emphasized that this agreement could pave the way for additional capabilities for the Spanish Navy, strengthening Spain’s defense industry and contributing to the country’s strategic sovereignty.
