Türkiye-Indonesia defense cooperation expands

Türkiye and Indonesia continues to strengthen, as highlighted by Türkiye's Ambassador to Jakarta, Talip Küçükcan. During an interview with Anadolu Agency, Küçükcan stated that Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin is closely monitoring developments in Türkiye's defense industry and places great importance on enhancing bilateral defense collaborations.

In his remarks, Ambassador Küçükcan emphasized that during his discussions with Minister Sjamsoeddin, defense industry projects between the two nations were a central topic. He recalled that a "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in Defense" was signed on February 12 in Indonesia between Türkiye's Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, coinciding with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to attend the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Küçükcan added that the meeting also focused on the implementation phases of the agreement, as well as potential Turkish contributions to modernizing the Indonesian military’s defense inventory. Additionally, the Ambassador mentioned that during the Türkiye-Indonesia Business Forum, Turkish defense companies such as ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, Baykar, and TAI signed extensive cooperation agreements involving technology transfer and joint production. Furthermore, he noted that TAI has already established a company in Bandung, Indonesia, to continue project activities.

The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the support provided for facilitating the activities of Turkish companies and emphasized the importance of the cooperation to be established between the Indonesian Defense University and Türkiye's National Defense University.

Küçükcan also highlighted the significance of high-ranking Indonesian armed forces personnel participating in training programs in Türkiye, which would further enhance bilateral defense relations. Minister Sjamsoeddin confirmed his commitment to overseeing the implementation of the defense cooperation agreement and announced his participation in the "Indo Defense 2025" defense exhibition in Jakarta, where he will deliver the opening speech for the 75th anniversary of Türkiye-Indonesia diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Küçükcan concluded by noting that Minister Sjamsoeddin continues to closely follow developments in Türkiye's defense industry and is committed to strengthening the defense and security cooperation between the two nations.
