Saab has received an order from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to extend the operational life of the Spanish Army’s Arthur artillery radar systems. The contract, valued at approximately SEK 540 million (EUR 49.4 million), aims to modernize existing systems and sustain their operational readiness.

The upgrade will incorporate new technology to enhance the Spanish Army’s artillery locating capability. According to Saab, the modernization will improve mobility and counter-battery performance, allowing for the detection of more targets at longer ranges while minimizing the radar’s electronic signature.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area, said, “We are pleased to continue to strengthen Spain’s artillery locating capability, which is critical in warning of incoming fire as well as enabling quick counter-battery fire. The order is the first of our radar systems to go via NATO’s purchasing organization which is an important step for us.”

Arthur, developed by Saab, is a mobile artillery locating radar designed to detect and track incoming fire, providing early warning and supporting counter-battery operations. The system is also used for fire control and contributes to the protection of both troops and civilians in operational environments.
