Russia’s state defense company Rostec’s High-Precision Systems holding has completed testing of prototype UTDT-32T diesel engines designed for upgraded infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), the company announced.
The new engine is equipped with a turbocharger and fan-based cooling system. Compared to the engine currently used in the BMP-3 vehicle, the UTDT-32T offers higher torque and increased power output, while adding only 7 percent more weight.
According to Rostec, the improved power to weight ratio of the UTDT-32T allows IFVs to accommodate additional onboard systems, including enhanced protection modules, without compromising mobility.
The company plans to begin serial production of the engine to support new generations of light tracked armored vehicles.
