The partnership focuses on aligning efforts for European defence projects, particularly Italy's procurement programs for main battle tanks (MBTs) and armoured infantry combat systems (AICS). “RENK and Leonardo are joining forces to contribute to ambitious European projects. In Italy, significant procurement programs are underway, and both companies must act as catalysts to foster collaboration at the European level, creating a common strategic vision. An industrial and technological framework is essential to achieve this goal.”

The collaboration will leverage RENK Italia Srl’s presence at Leonardo’s ex-OTO Melara industrial site in La Spezia, enabling closer interaction between the two entities. This synergy aims to provide cutting-edge solutions for the European defence tracked segment and support local technological development.

Pier Federico Bisconti, Chairman of RENK Italia Srl, highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying:

“We are grateful for the trust Leonardo has placed in us. The establishment of RENK Italia Srl and this agreement are crucial steps toward building a significant European critical mass in the defence sector.”

The agreement also emphasizes the importance of international collaboration to address evolving defence challenges. RENK Italia Srl will work closely with local technological partners, research institutions, and end-users to generate sustainable development and localization within Italy. The MoU is expected to create innovative growth opportunities and further strengthen European defence alliances.
